A Message from the Fair Association...

SunsetDell Valley and Hudspeth County are places of extremes – vast open spaces, stark mountains, dramatic sunsets. This year has presented its own unique extremes and challenges – a historic cold snap that burst pipes across the region, a scorching summer and a drought that has strained our local ranchers. Those challenges are all the more reason for Dell Valley and Hudspeth County residents – and our families and friends from near and far – to gather together, enjoy one another’s company and celebrate the pioneering spirit and special sense of community that have defined this place and continue to carry us through today.

Organizing the fair is a challenge as well. The Fair Association is grateful to all those who have volunteered their time, talents and resources to make the event possible and for the generosity of our sponsors and advertisers. As always, the Fair offers something for everyone – DCISD junior high football and high school volleyball games, live music and dancing on Friday and Saturday, a Main Street parade, team roping, a variety of entertainment and games for children, a softball tournament and, of course, lots of great food – including a tamale lunch on Friday, a brisket barbeque on Saturday, cooked by Dell City FFA, and a Mexican lunch on Sunday. Arts, crafts, sewing, locally grown produce and more will be on display at the Exhibit Barn, and we encourage everyone to submit their offerings to the competition.

The Fair Association is extremely pleased this year to be able to host a screening of Tales from Dell City, Texas and to welcome the documentary’s director, Josh Carter, to Dell City. Ten years in the making, Josh’s documentary is a fitting tribute to Dell City and its agricultural traditions and a charming and moving record of the community. The documentary sold out at its debut screening, at the Plaza Film Festival in El Paso. Whether you missed out on that first screening or you’ve already seen the film, we invite you to join us for the movie Saturday evening, beginning at 7 p.m. at Dell Telephone Cooperative's Meeting Room.

Each year the Fair is held marks a milestone for the event and for the community – and the Dell Valley Hudspeth County Fair wouldn’t be celebrating its 53rd year without your support and involvement. The Fair Association is always looking for new ideas and new energy, and we encourage anyone who is interested to get involved as we plan for the 54th event. But most of all –
