DCISD Varsity Football Season Ends Early.

Varsity Cougar football has ended just two games into the 2011 season, due in part to an injury sustained by the team's quarterback Joey Covarrubias. The Cougar QB suffered a broken leg in the 1st half of game two which put the team down a man for the remainder of the season. Following the loss of Covarrubias, coaches were notified that two additional team members would be unable to complete the season, leaving only 5 players on the roster. Unfortunately, the Cougars were forced to forfeit all remaining games for the 2011 season. The complete story is available in this week's edition (9/17/11) of the Hudspeth Co. Herald. The Fair Association would like to express our appreciation to the Cougar football team and coaching staff for trying to keep the 2011 season alive and we extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery to Joey!

Ms. Bonnie Prather Larreau Named 2011 Grand Marshal.

Bonnie Prather Larreau The Dell Valley Hudspeth County Fair Association is pleased to announce the selection of Bonnie Prather Larreau as grand marshal of the 53rd annual Hudspeth County Fair.

Raised on an Otero County Ranch, Bonnie worked sheep in New Mexico and Dell Valley for decades and has run the Sheepherder Bar in Dell City for more than 30 years – needless to say she is an ideal representative of the agricultural and western heritage that the fair celebrates.

Named “Citizen of the Year” in 1991, Bonnie currently serves on the Rio Grande Electric advisory board and has served for nine years as a director of Dell Telephone Cooperative, and she has been a devoted and generous member of the community, helping to raise money for the fair and other community projects and for individuals in need for many, many years.

She brings joy to the people who know her. Though Bonnie likes to remind us that she is “eight years older than Dell City,” you wouldn’t know it by her ready laugh, her eagerness to have fun or her sharp – not to say barbed – tongue.

We look forward to seeing you at the head of the parade, Bonnie!
